Automated island for cutting, milling and sanding of wooden cover panels, designed to maximise material yield from raw boards. The system checks board dimensions and analyses head and foot sides to detect defects before any processing, determining the optimal cut position.

A Comau robot picks the piece from a loading stack and deposits it on a machine vision bench. The vision system acquires the real shape, verifies dimensions and calculates the ideal grip point coordinates, transmitting them to the robot in real time. The robot then transfers the piece to the cutting, milling and sanding bench for the processing cycle.

At the end of each side's processing, the completed piece is evacuated via chain conveyors. If the piece cannot be realised — due to out-of-tolerance dimensions or excessive raw material damage — the system can automatically reject it or alert the operator for the final decision.
